Quiz 5: Preterm neonate with respiratory distress

These pictures are of a newborn boy born at 34 weeks to a primigravida by Cesarean Section. He developed severe respiratory distress in the initial hours of life. He received IV fluids, antibiotics and surfactant therapy alongside mechanical ventilation. Despite all efforts he died on day 6 of NICU stay.



Questions:
1) Describe the findings.
2) What is the diagnosis?
